How We Create Custom Orthodontic Aligners

prairie village clear alignersDid you know that we can treat uneven smiles with clear plastic aligners? In fact, this can provide a cosmetic alternative to traditional braces and retainers! But how do we create them? How do we ensure a comfortable fit? In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about how we craft your custom orthodontic aligners!

The Need for Our Orthodontic Clear Aligners

If you have uneven teeth, you don’t have to live life with embarrassment, or simply hide your smile from the world. Instead, we could offer a way to strengthen these teeth and offer esthetically-friendly results, all in as little as one year. In addition to boosting the appearance of your smile, correcting your uneven teeth can also help improve the overall health and function of your bite, protecting you from an array of complications such as tooth decay and infection, gingivitis and gum disease, and even TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). We can do so with our custom clear orthodontic aligners!

Taking a Custom Approach

To begin, we will examine your smile to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. If we find that you need treatment, then we will take images and impressions of your bite with digital technology, allowing our team to design and create a series of clear and comfortable trays. These will fit comfortably over your teeth and provide treatment with precision, since they are all custom-made for your smile in particular!

The Treatment Process

The treatment process involves wearing a set of your aligners for about 20 to 23 hours each day, taking them out for meals, brushing and flossing, and special occasions. You need to soak and clean them regularly too. Every two weeks, you will move on to the next set in the series and then continue the process as your trays gently and gradually correct your smile. For some, results could be possible in as little as one year, while teens or those with more severe misalignment may need up to 18 months. The orthodontic trays themselves are easy to wear and clean, and you have fewer office visits too.
