Did You Know We Offer Removable Braces?

prairie village removable bracesWith traditional metal braces, we can correct misalignment, but these are affixed to your teeth. But what if you could receive an option that you can take out before meals or special events? In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne, DDS, talks about helping smiles in Prairie Village, KS, with removable clear braces.

The Removability of Our Aligners

With metal braces, brackets are attached to the front-facing sides of each tooth and then a thin arch wire is attached to each bracket. During periodic visits, tension is adjusted in the wires to shift the teeth. These cannot be removed, and you must change your diet to keep food from being stuck in braces or causing brackets and wires to come loose. Brushing and flossing is also more difficult. But! What if instead, we could create a series of aligners. These are worn daily, but you can take them out before meals, no need to change your diet. Being removable also means a much easier time brushing and flossing, and you could even take them out for special occasions, like a first date, job interview, or other special events.

Starting Treatment

How do we begin the process? To start, we want to take a close look at your smile. With digital imaging technology, we want to help assess the position of the teeth and the severity of your misalignment. From there, we can decide if this is the best treatment option for you. If so, then we will take steps to design and craft your custom aligners, which help correct your misalignment and offer even and beautiful smiles.

Creating Your Custom Orthodontics

We will use the iTero® system to take digital images of your teeth. There will be a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand, which we use to take multiple images of your smile from multiple angles, which we use in the design and fabrication process. The aligners will all be made from a clear acrylic material, one that is BPA-free and safe for teens and adults alike. Being custom-made means that each set will fit over the teeth comfortably while gently shifting your teeth to proper alignment over time. Each set in the series will be worn daily for 20 to 23 hours a day, over a period of two weeks. The next set is then worn for the same amount of time, and for some, an even smile could be possible in as little as one year!
