To correct your uneven teeth with aligners instead of braces, we create custom and precise orthodontic trays. Worn daily, these can help gradually and gently shift your teeth. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about how we ensure a perfect fit for your orthodontic clear aligners.
When You Need Orthodontic Clear Aligners
Do you have teeth that are crooked? Do you have teeth that overlap one another or crowd each other? Dental misalignment can occur for a number of reasons, but treatment is needed to spare your oral health major complications. With uneven teeth, thorough brushing and flossing can be difficult, which increases the risk of cavities and gum disease. For others, there is pressure on the jaw joints due to misalignment, which itself increases the risk of associated complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel confident with your appearance, which impacts your social and quality of life too. We can help with a cosmetic approach to braces, offering orthodontic clear aligners instead of metal brackets and wires.
Creating Custom Orthodontics
The key to the precision and comfort of this treatment process is the custom nature of our aligners. Each set has been custom-made for your smile specifically, so it can provide treatment with precision and also ensure a comfortable process for our patients. To begin, we will take detailed images of your bite from multiple angles using a digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We obtain these images quickly and comfortably, no need for bite wings or lengthy development times. The images are available instantly chairside, and we can combine them to create a 3D impression of your bite. We then send these images and measurements to experts who will design and craft your orthodontics from a BPA-free and clear plastic material.
Starting Treatment
When your orthodontic appliances are ready, you can start the treatment process. You will begin wearing a set each day for between 20 and 23 hours, removing them only for meals, when brushing and flossing, or for special occasions. They will need to be cleaned regularly too. Every two weeks, you start wearing the next set in the series and continue this process until you see optimal results, which for some could take as little as a year. In comparison, metal braces often take two to two-and-a-half years.
