When you have dental misalignment, your crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth can lead to poor oral health and even embarrassment with your appearance. But our team can help, and we can do so with a cosmetic approach. In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about treating smiles with orthodontic clear aligners for our Prairie Village, KS patients.
The Presence and Risks of an Uneven Smile
Treating your uneven smile with orthodontic clear aligners can help boost your oral health and improve bite function, while also offering major improvement for your smile’s appearance. We urge patients to see us to discuss treatment if they have uneven teeth. Crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth could increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as brushing and flossing is more difficult. Poor alignment could leave someone feeling self-conscious in social situations, impacting their overall quality of life in negative ways. Poor alignment could also increase the risk of associated complications, such as TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Our team can see if our clear and comfortable braces are right for you!
Creating Your Clear Aligners
Treating smiles with orthodontic clear aligners means creating custom trays that are worn daily, and which help shift your teeth into proper position. We begin with an exam to see if you benefit from our clear system. If so, we will take digital images of your bite from multiple angles, using a tiny camera at the end of a thin wand. We obtain the images quickly and comfortably, allowing them to create a 3D impression far more accurate than a physical one, and far easier and more comfortable to obtain. We then send the impressions to experts in a lab setting, who will create your custom clear braces.
Treating Your Smile
When your new orthodontics are ready, you can start the treatment process. You will wear a set for about 20 to 23 hours a day, over the course of about two weeks. You then continue the process by wearing the next set in the series for the same amount of time. The process continues for about a year as your smile is gradually and gently repositioned. During this time, you can remove them before meals or brushing and flossing for added convenience. These will also stay clear the entire time!
