If you have an uneven smile, then you should consider a treatment option, one that is practically invisible! With orthodontic clear aligners, our team can treat poor alignment with an esthetically-friendly solution. In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about our clear aligners, and about who makes a good candidate for treatment!
Candidacy
Who makes a good candidate for clear aligner treatment? We will look at a number of factors. First, we will examine your smile with digital x-rays to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. Clear aligners work great for minor cases, but more severe ones may still benefit from braces. We will also ask about your preferences, as many patients would rather use clear orthodontics if possible, in lieu of metal orthodontics like braces. In short, we will first make sure this is the best possible solution for your poor alignment!
Starting Treatment
If we find out that you are a great candidate for orthodontic clear aligners, then what happens? Well, our team will take detailed images of the surfaces of your smile with an intraoral camera, which enables us to create a 3D impression of your bite. We also take digital x-rays. Experts will use the images and impressions we gather in a lab setting to design and craft a custom set. In fact, there will be an entire set of them to help you obtain an even smile, often in as little as one year.
Treatment will involve wearing a set for about two weeks, usually between 20 and 23 hours each day. You can remove them before you brush and floss, and before meals, which makes daily life easier when compared to metal braces. They are also easy to clean and wear, and practically invisible when in place, so no negative changes to your professional appearance.
The Benefits of an Even Smile
When you correct your uneven smile, you lower your risk of complications like tooth decay and gum disease, as brushing and flossing is much easier. You also avoid strain on your jaw joints, so the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding) is much lower too. You can feel confident when you smile and make a great impression when you meet someone!
