Braces are a great way to treat misalignment, but they are also very visible and could impact your smile’s appearance during treatment. But what if we have a more invisible option? In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about how we provide these comfortable and practically invisible orthodontics aligners!
The Need for Orthodontics
When do you need to consider orthodontics to address your missing teeth? If you have misalignment, then care is crucial. Your uneven teeth could impact the appearance of your smile, but they also make brushing and flossing difficult, leaving you vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease, and with it, risks to your smile’s stability. The pressure on your bite from uneven teeth could make the onset of TMJ disorder and even painful bruxism (teeth grinding) more likely. For better oral health, improved bite function, and a more attractive appearance, we can shift your uneven smile to optimal alignment! Instead of metal braces, we can do so with comfortable and clear orthodontic aligners.
Braces That Are Clear and Comfortable
The key is a series of aligners that fit snugly over your teeth, with each set gradually moving your smile closer to optimal alignment. Each set in the series has been custom-made for your bite based on detailed digital images we take of your bite, as well as digital x-rays of your roots and jaw. We plan treatment in detail. When your aligners are ready, you will wear a set for about 20 to 23 hours each day, removing them only for meals, special occasions, or when brushing and flossing your teeth. You do so for about two weeks, and then move on to the next set in the series, continuing the process for as little as one year in many cases! In comparison, braces often require two years or more to straighten your smile.
Creating Your New Aligners
As we touched on above, we use digital imaging and digital impressions to design and craft your aligners, so each set is custom-made to ensure a proper fit and optimal treatment, helping you on your lath to an even smile. They will also be clear in appearance and barely noticeable when worn, which is often preferred by our teen and adult patients.
