Starting Clear Aligner Treatment

If you have dental misalignment, this could alter the appearance, balance, and function of your bite. You need treatment to improve your oral health and bite function, and ensure you can smile without hesitation. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about starting treatment with orthodontic clear aligners.

When Teens and Adults Need Orthodontic Treatment

If you have crooked teeth, or if teeth are overlapping or crowding one another, then treatment is necessary to improve overall oral health. Otherwise, this not only changes the appearance of your smile in negative ways, but could also impact oral health, increasing the risk of issues like tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and even bruxism (teeth grinding). Our team can examine your smile to assess the cause and extent to your misalignment, deciding if clear aligners are right for you. If so, we will start your treatment journey by creating a series of custom and clear orthodontics from a BPA-free plastic material!

Creating Custom Aligners

How do we create your custom aligners? To get started, our team will gather images of your bite with digital technology. We can use a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand to obtain these images quickly and comfortably, from multiple angles too. These will be combined to create a detailed and digital 3D model of your smile. Experts will then use what we have made to design and craft your orthodontics, each set being custom-made for your smile. When they are ready, you can start the treatment process.

The Orthodontic Clear Aligner System

With orthodontic clear aligners, you will wear a set from the series daily for around 20 to 23 hours on average. After about two weeks, you will start wearing the next set in the series and continue to repeat this process as you move through the series of orthodontics. We will monitor your progress with routine visits too, but fewer visits than you would need with braces. These clear braces then gently shift your teeth and provide improved oral health. You enjoy an even smile in as little as one year. For added convenience, these are removable so mealtime and brushing/flossing is much simpler during the treatment process.

If you have any questions about how we take on your misalignment with our clear and custom treatment option, or if you would like to schedule a visit to start your treatment journey, then reach out to our office today to get started!
