For people with dental misalignment, lack of treatment could lead to serious oral health issues. You could also feel uncomfortable with your appearance! But we can provide a custom solution. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about treating misalignment with our custom orthodontic clear aligners.
When do you need to talk to our team about orthodontic treatment? We suggest this for people with misalignment. When you have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this could make thorough brushing and flossing difficult and leave you more likely to develop tooth decay and gum disease. Poor alignment could strain your jaw joints and boost the risks of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Uneven teeth could also impact how you feel in social situations and even harm your overall quality of life. But with our orthodontic clear aligners, we can offer a clear, cosmetic, and comfortable way to treat your misalignment.
How does the clear aligner system work? Well, our team will first take detailed digital images of your smile. We want to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment to make sure this is the right choice for you. The images and measurements we gather can be used by experts in a lab setting to design and craft a series of alignments from a clear acrylic material. These will fit snugly over your teeth and each set is used to correct your smile. You wear a set for about 20 to 23 hours a day on average, and do so daily for about two weeks. Afterward, you begin wearing the next set in the series for the same amount of time, which helps gradually and gently reposition your teeth in as little as one year for some patients!
Along with being clear in appearance, they are also removable. You can take them out before meals, so you don’t have to be concerned with food particles being caught in your braces. The removable nature also means a much easier time brushing and flossing your teeth, so the risk of cavities and gum disease during treatment is lowered, as well as the risks of teeth stains. Being removable also means you can take them out for special occasions, just be sure you are wearing them for the amount of time we recommend each day.
