Do You Qualify For Clear Aligners?

Do you have dental misalignment? Without treatment, you could develop malocclusion and a number of uncomfortable and serious complications. But that doesn’t mean braces are your only option for a straighter smile. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about clear aligners and who qualifies for them!

Dental Misalignment

Dental misalignment could include crowded, crooked, or overlapping teeth. This could happen due to factors like premature tooth loss, injury to the face or jaw, thumb sucking in childhood, or issues with the eruption of your teeth or the growth of your jaw and certain oral structures. Without treatment, this could make thoroughly brushing and flossing your teeth difficult, leaving your smile vulnerable to tooth decay and periodontal disease. Poor alignment is also linked to painful complications like TMJ disorders and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel uncomfortable with the appearance of your smile, which impacts your quality of life. But we can help with our orthodontic clear aligners!

Orthodontic Clear Aligners

Our team will carefully examine your smile to assess the cause and severity of your alignment. We want to make sure clear aligners are the best choice for you. If so, then our team will gather detailed digital images and measurements of your smile from multiple angles. Experts will use these in a lab setting to design and craft your appliances, each set being made from a clear and BPA-free plastic material. These will help shift your smile and offer care with precision, so you can smile with confidence in as little as one year in some cases!

Correcting Your Smile

The treatment process involves wearing a set for about two weeks, and for 20 to 22 hours a day. You then wear the next set in the series for the same amount of time, and continue the process as your smile is gradually and gently repositioned. The process could take about a year for adults, or as long as 18 months for teens, still much shorter than the two or more years that braces need. The aligners are easy to clean and maintain, and you can take them out before meals or prior to brushing and flossing. You could even remove them for special occasions!
